Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

Colossians 3:1

Congratulations on taking the Colossians 3 Challenge! I’m proud of you for even making the attempt! When you memorize Scripture, you’re basically giving the Holy Spirit more to work with as He transforms you into becoming more like Jesus. To be clear: the goal is not to just memorize Scripture, but to memorize Scripture so it can change the way we think! As you review the verses you learn, take time to let them sink in and affect your decision making and the way you see God, yourself, and others.

Today at church, we tried the erase-one-word-at-a-time method on the screen. You can also do this by writing out the verse on a marker board, mirror, or window with a dry-erase marker. It helps to say the verse a few times out loud before you start erasing one word at a time. This is not a test, so feel free to look back whenever you need to!

Another thing to consider as you get started is to find a buddy to do this with. It creates accountability, and you can encourage each other and quote your verses to each other. Also, in case you’re not aware, there are various apps for your phone specifically for memorizing Scripture. Some are good-quality and free, like the Bible Memory: BibleMe app.

God bless you as you get this awesome passage of Scripture into your brain and into your life! This is going to take some effort, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun at the same time!
